Get to know one of London’s rising artists who are part of Lick The Future: Teo Burki. Influenced by the infiltration of tech in our lives, this 2020 CSM grad explores the difference between the visual language of the digital and the manual. Here are 5 questions.

Can you describe what you do in less than 15 words? 

It is a hybrid form of painting - searching, adapting and remixing different materials.

Do you have any life soundtrack? 

There are few in this category and it depends on a certain period, but one I would distinguish would be the ‘Diva Plavalaguna’ area from the ‘Fifth element; something with the greater amplitude of high-pitch and low vibrations. Ironic, a combination of ‘extraterrestrial’ and ‘extremely human’, loaded with the heavy stones inside. Plus, this was the first movie I encountered, showing the transition in the outer world, totally different from the soviet films of my childhood and every kid I knew d was obsessed with it.

What historical figure would you like to have a chat with?

I would gladly talk to artist Francis Bacon. I don’t know how interactive the talk would actually be, but I would gladly have a drink with him and it would be great if I would have a chance to explore his London and of course his studio.

What’s the weirdest thing that you ever encounter in the streets of London?

London is truly an amazing place for me, with so many things going on, but contrary to my expectations I don’t remember any particular occasions, which I could call weird. Maybe that’s a point, In London, you aren’t surprised so easily by anything anymore.

Do you have any routine/rituals before you start working? 10 cups of coffee?

I am a very coffee addicted person, and yes, just loads of coffee would be a good start for working. Nothing other than that. I don’t have any specific rituals or discipline routine.
